Last night was the first night with the windows open. Bliss.
The dogs growled all night.

Thunderstorms are predicted for today.

We slept with the windows open last night, and the neighbors' chickens kept me up from 4:00 on. Yes, chickens. Right in the center of a small city/town. Chickens. Sigh. ~Laura

  2. Hm. In St. Paul, MN, you're allowed to have chickens if all your adjoining neighbors consent. But no roosters.

  3. No such rules out here in the boondocks. One of our neighbors down in the valley had a rooster last summer and we would hear it often. I haven't heard it lately. You are making me a little nervous. Our chicks arrive in two weeks. I did order one rooster and am sure I will end up with one or two more. There are ways to deal with overly zealous roosters...(key spooky organ music and mad laugh now).

Our neighbors have 2 roosters with different "voices", and I am able to distinguish between the two. They call and answer each other. I can't hear them with the windows closed, like last night (it's already hot here in South Texas) but I could hear them serenading each other when I went out for the paper this morning. I think these folks have lived here for a very long time - decades, and their chickens are probably grandfathered in. I don't think I could start up a new flock (flock?) of chickens now. ~Laura
